EARTHDAY 2025 "OUR PLANET, OUR POWER".
Our power to write our history
As the 55th anniversary of Earth Dayour planet is facing a decisive turning point. Global temperatures are perilously close to the critical threshold of +1.5°C: the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has just announced that 2023 and 2024 were the hottest years on record, becoming also the first to exceed the symbolic threshold of 1.5°C warming compared with the pre-industrial era - a limit that the 2015 Paris Agreement was precisely designed not to cross.
Yet, despite overwhelming evidence and increasingly frequent climate catastrophes, we live in a world where political and economic decisions continue to relegate the climate emergency to the back burner.
April 22 - Earth Day: a legacy of environmental activism
Earth Day was born in 1970 out of a vision to create a global environmental movement. What began as a day of education on environmental issues has evolved into a global recognition of the vulnerability of our planet and our collective responsibility to protect it. Every year, on April 22, people around the world demonstrate their support for environmental protection through various actions and initiatives. But by 2025, simply raising awareness is no longer enough.

Why march on April 22?
The March for the Earth in Luxembourg, supported by theunion of more than twenty Luxembourg civil society organizations (Afrilanthropy, Amnesty International, ASTM, CELL, Etika, European Climate Pact Luxembourg, ESE, Femmes en détresse, Foodsharing, Forum, Frères des hommes, Friddens- a Solidaritéitsplattform, Greenpeace, Handicap International, Kliko, LCGB - Letzebuerger Christleche Gewerkschafts-Bond, Mouvement écologique, natur&ëmwelt, OGBL, Partage, ProVelo, Seniors for Climate Luxembourg, Transition Minett, Youth4Planet, Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg) represents a clear rejection of half-measures.
We walk for :
- An accelerated transition to renewable energies and a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels
-
Climate justice that recognizes the disproportionate impacts on the most vulnerable communities in the Global South
-
A truly just transition that leaves no one behind
-
A real sense of responsibility on the part of industrialized nations at COP30
A living climate museum
Beyond mobilization, on April 22 we are launching an unprecedented project: a Climate Museum. A collection of and personal objects which will bring together our collective experiences of the climate crisis for future generations. By bringing together objects, letters, photos and video testimonies that bear witness to the impact of the climate crisis on our livesour aim is to create a powerful narrative that links personal experience with global climate justice.
A movement for everyone
Everyone has a place in the climate movement. Earth March 2025 is more than a protest-it's a milestone in our collective journey towards climate justice.
We invite you to be part of this moment.
Whether you contribute your voice to the march, share your personal climatic story for our museum project, or simply attend in solidarity, you are essential to this movement.
Let's remind our leaders and each other that the climate emergency demands nothing less than a fundamental transformation of our society.a transformation that puts people and planet at the heart of our common future.
I'm walking, what about you?
