AUGUST 29-30: Poetic Assembly - "The tree that hides the forest" LUGA 2025
11 min reading
Closing event : a "poetic" citizens' assembly around trees and forests.

Element vital, a source of oxygen and a thermal regulator, trees are also our habitat. Cis thanks to them, to plant photosynthesis. we can share a space respiratory that we can exist.
But in our noisy urban environments, it's easy to forget. This ecological amnesia can be reversible with attention. That's why we suggest two days of poetic citizens' assembly around the treeto consider him as a subject, as an individual in his own right equal with the same sensitivities and needs as us humans. But also to see it as a collective "wea colony, an ecosystem, a habitat, a network, a world, which can serve as a source of inspiration to open up new perspectives.
Whether in the city or in the forest, we want to think about concrete actions that will lead to a better (re)-knowledge, a better understanding, and a more just cohabitation with our allies the trees. Because inter-species cohabitation will always exist. Through these two days of assembly we want to make visible what often escapes us: the deep ties that bind us to the living world and the state of dependence in which we find ourselves.
This poetic and political event aims not only to change our perceptions, but also to create communities of interest and practice around urban environmental issues, involving all players in civil society. : residents, professionals, environmentalists and activists.
The meeting is structured around a number of themes:
- A moment of sharing expertise and knowledge (researchers, philosophers, artists, writers, storytellers, educators, environmentalists, activists, healers, civil society players)
- A a space for the arts, the senses and the imagination (storytelling, role-playing, singing, care, gastronomy, etc.).
- A time for exchange and convergence between the natural sciences, the humanities and social sciences, the arts and environmental and citizens' movements
- A open democratic forum and a experimental laboratory collective (intergenerational, intercultural and multiperspective)
- From participatory co-creation sessions and a platform for concrete action

LUGA 2025 "MAKING THE INVISIBLE VISIBLE":
The tree that hides the forest (déi Wëll, déi lafen am Bësch) is a an evolving poetic and political project which explores the place of trees in our towns and forestsas subject, habitat and ecosystem. This vast program, rooted in the real and the imaginary, aims to challenge our ways of thinking and reinvent our link to lifeto bring ecological actions to life in Luxembourg.
Across our cities, trees live silently with usThey occupy the same living space and yet remain in the same place. invisible to manyunless they are considered "remarkable". Element vital, a source of oxygen and a thermal regulator, trees are also our habitat. Cis thanks to them, to the photosynthesis of plants, that we can share a space respiratory that we can exist.
In the city, the figure of the tree exists by its presence, but also by its absence. The project "The tree that hides the forest (déi Wëll, déi lafen am Bësch)". is a CELL project (Citizens for Ecological Learning and Living)¹ conceptualized in collaboration with artist Justine Blauwhich looks at the tree through its evocative power as a natural emblem, as well as a cultural, political and philosophical symbol.
The tree is one of the few members of the plant kingdom capable of arousing in us a sense of otherness. Through its size and shape, we identify a being, and we also find in it a part of ourselves. This explains its ability to touch and move us, especially when it disappears. It therefore seems to us the ideal companion for this project, as a way of letting go of an old image. anthropocentric thinkingwhich prevents us from conceiving other ways of cohabiting in a living world, and enables us to develop a root and decentralized way of thinking.
The nomadic project extends over a period of four months, around shared moments in the municipal parkto move towards Pétrusse valley to end up at the Kirchberg plateau.
Visit themes are:
- our nature's fearsThey are rooted in our subconscious, both archaic and modern;
- greater (re)discovering life through all our senses ;
- the creating a democratic space for citizens to imagine new ways of coexisting with trees.
Project supported by ahe desire for ecosocial transition combining the artistic act with a ceremonial gesture, it will open and close around the talewhilean installation will be erected to host a "poetic" citizens' assembly around trees and forests.
Mostly urban species, the inhabitants of Luxembourg are not always aware of the inter-species cohabitation that marks their daily lives. However, the city is home to a wide range of biodiversity that contributes to improving our quality of life. And in spite of all the compartmentalization and concrete, city and nature have never ceased to be linked. To create a living, sustainable city, trees are our best and only partners. Through this project, we want to work together to imagine the "phytopole "* of tomorrow.

Fear of the dark. Fear of the night. Fear of the wild... Fear of us?
Can you really be afraid of a tree, or of being alone in the forest?
Rather than fears, aren't we talking about the anxieties that haunt our thoughts and distort our perception of the living and the other?
Fear, on the other hand, sharpens our senses, awakens our instincts and even enables us to envisage possible survival solutions. This is what oral tradition tells us. Far from providing answers, they attempt to provoke constantly renewed reflection through poetic and symbolic words. So let's listen to what these myths, tales and legends have had to say since the dawn of time. The walk starts at 9pm, so please be punctual!
- Take something to cover up and an umbrella in case of bad weather 😉. Make sure you wear good shoes and avoid heels.
- Please let us know if you can't make it, so we can pass your tickets on to other lucky people.
A snack will be provided.

In a world turned upside down by ecological, social and existential crises, it is becoming urgent to recognize our emotions as allies, not weaknesses. This workshop invites you to explore fear not as an obstacle, but as a precious signal - one that can awaken our responsibility and nourish our desire to take action for what matters.
Through a and collective framework, we will question the dualisms (reason/emotion, human/nature...) et power dynamics, to better restore balance within us and around us. You'll discover how love of living things can give us the strength to transforming anguish into commitment, and despair into action.
A time to connect with ourselves, others and the world, and to reflect together on how we can become agents of change in a more just, humane and resilient society.
Workshop inspired by the book Reliance - Inner transition manual (M. Maxime Egger, T. Grosjean, E. Wattelet, Actes Sud).
